Mike Good

A highly successful beginning in the sport of wrestling, Mike Good has continued that success in everything he's accomplished in life. As the current chief executive officer of the Sotheby's International Reality brand, Mike has led an amazing career, full of achievement. Born in Montevideo, Minnesota his family moved to Fridley in l957. At Fridley High School, Mike wrestled for Hall of Famer Don Meyers. He was a four-year letter winner, three - time Skyline Conference Champion, Co-Captain of the l967 Fridley State Championship team and placed third in State at 127 pounds. Fridley teams were undefeated in dual meets all four years Mike competed on varsity. He was also named Honor/Athlete in l967. Mike went on to wrestle at Augsburg College in Minneapolis. There he was a four-year starter capturing three MIAC Conference titles. He also was a four-time NAIA National qualifier and became Augsburg's first wrestling All-American in l969. Mike was a two-time All-American, placing second in l969 and fourth in l971. The two-time captain was named Honor Athlete in l971. He graduated Cum Laude with a B.A. in Sociology. This accomplished wrestler became one of the nation's youngest head coaches when he took over at Augsburg College in l971-72. His Auggie team went undefeated with an 11-0-1 record. They placed second in the MIAC conference tournament and went on to place 11th in the NAIA National tournament. He coached two All-Americans in Ron Johnson and Augsburg's first national champion in Pat Marcy. For his efforts he was voted runner-up for National "Rookie Coach of the Year" (all divisions). As a testament to his talents as coach and mentor, several of his recruits went on to become All-Americans. After receiving his master's degree from the College of St. Thomas in l972, Mike took a teaching and head coaching position at the new Blaine High school, where he coached from l973 to l977. He started with only sophomores that inaugural season in l973-l974. In l976 Blaine won the North Suburban Conference title, just three years into the sport of wrestling for this new school. They also defeated Anoka High School that year, which went on to capture State Consolation Honors. His Blaine team lost only two meets during his last season as coach. Both of those losses were to Anoka, which won the state championship that year. But his success in wrestling as a participant and coach was just the beginning of his diverse and accomplished career. Mike entered the Real Estate business in l977 as a sales representative at the Real Estate 10 Fridley office, which was co-owned by Hall of Famers Frank Huelskamp and Dick Mueller, who recruited Mike into their firm. This decision led to a tremendous career in Real Estate. In the first year, Mike was named manager of the new Coon Rapids office, then to owner/general sales manager in the next two years. In l980 he was named chairman of the Executive committee of Real Estate 10. In l981 the firm was sold to the Coldwell Banker brand. Mike kept climbing the ladder, becoming senior vice president of the Regional Coldwell Banker Real Estate Corporation in l982 and senior vice-president and general sales manager for the Tampa Bay Region in l985. In l987 he was named president and chief operating officer of Coldwell Banker West Central Florida. In l991 he became national vice president for the brand and moved back to Minneapolis to restructure the Coldwell Banker organization there. That same year he also was inducted into the Augsburg College Athletic Hall of Fame. In l993, he returned to Florida to serve as president of West Central Florida Coldwell banker. He quadrupled the size of the Florida company in four years. In l997 Mike was named senior vice president of NRT Inc. Coldwell Banker was acquired by Cendant Corporation. In l998 he became executive vice president and chief operating officer of NRT Inc. and transferred to New Jersey. In 2004 Cendant acquired a 100-year licensing agreement from the Sotheby's auction house, and Mike was chosen to lead the new Sotheby's International Realty brand as president and chief executive officer. Under his leadership, the brand has become the leading luxury real estate franchise system in the world, growing to more than 550 offices in 44 countries in just seven years. Mike also has served in a number of other leadership roles, such as a member of his Church congregational Council for six years-two as president-and for 10 years on the Augsburg College Board of Regents-three as chair of the board. His most favorite roles, however, have been as husband to Ann, father to their two children, Matthew and Mandy, and grandfather to Mac, Jayda and Mikala. Robert Becker, chairman emeritus at NRT, sums up Mike's amazing career best: "I didn't know Mike during his wrestling days and could not speak to his prowess in that area. Although it seems that the record speaks for itself. I have, however, had the privilege of working alongside Mike in the business arena for more than 20 years, and during that time have come to appreciate that in every aspect of his life, he truly is an "Outstanding American."
