Kyle Maynard
March 24, 1986 - Present
Kyle Maynard is a young man who knows no limitations. Born with a rare disorder called congenital amputation, he has only three joints: a neck and two shoulders. Measuring just over two feet tall and weighing approximately 103 pounds, he has no elbows or knees.
Despite these physical challenges, Maynard has become a successful amateur wrestler and has inspired thousands with his courage and spirit for living.
An accomplished high school wrestler, he sported a 35-16 record and competed in the 2004 Georgia High School Championships with an impressive 3-2 record. A tremendous performance followed at the NHSCA National Wrestling Championships where he fell just short of All-American status.
Maynard earned a 3.7 GPA while being active in many club and school activities. Along with wrestling, he has participated in swimming, baseball, street hockey and football. He is currently enrolled at the University of Georgia where he wrestles on the club team. He has started working on his first book, entitled “No Excuses”.
An HBO Sports report in January 2004 introduced his story that has now been told in some of the most respected media outlets in the world. He has appeared on TV and has been featured in magazines, including Abercrombie & Fitch. He received the ESPY award for Best Athlete with a Disability. The Georgia chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, as well as the Georgia State Wrestling Hall of Fame has honored him. He received the President’s award for Courage from the Humanitarian Hall of Fame.
He has become a sought-after public speaker, sharing his inspiring story with people all across the nation. He captivates his audience with his passionate attitude and love of wrestling and life. He is a living tribute to his parents who stressed self-reliance and perseverance from infancy.
