Michael Allison (Mike)
Mike was a three-time state qualifier, a two-time state champion and named the Outstanding Wrestler at Fountain-Fort Carson High School while compiling a 55-5 record for the Trojans through three seasons. He was undefeated as a senior in 1969, 20-0 at 165, 19-1 at 154 as a junior, and 16-4 during his sophomore season in 1967. He was selected for the Colorado All-Star Team that competed in Japan in 1968 and finished with a record of with a 7-1 during his competition in Japan. Among his many honors he was named a Scholastic Wrestling AllAmerican in 1969 and the same year placed 3rd in the Junior World Trials. He wrestled for the University of Colorado 1969-71 where he accumulated a 27-10 winning record. Mike went on to wrestle at Adams State College where he won two NAIA National Wrestling Championships at 190 lbs. with a 49-4 win-loss record. Among his post college wrestling accomplishments was being the Rocky Mountain AAU Champion in 1971 and 1974 at 191-pounds, he was also a Rocky Mountain Regional Olympic Trials Champion in 1972 and 1976 and a two-time Wyoming Open Champion in 1975-1976. His coaching career got underway in 1976 -77 as an assistant at Adams State College. He then progressed to be the head coach at Dakota State College. Mike soon became the Head Coach at Fort Lewis State College in Durango, Colorado. While coaching college Mike had a record of 50-22 with 28 National Qualifiers of which 10 were National Place Winners. Mike later decided to coach at the high school level and spent the next two years at Cheyenne Mountain High School as an assistant coach. In 1992 he became the head coach at Castle Rock High School through 1995. Mike continued his career at Montezuma Cortez High School from 1995-2006 as both Head Coach and Athletic Director. His high school dual meet coaching record was 106-55. He had 85 state qualifiers, 26 place winners which included seven state champions Mike is currently involved with the Grand Junction High School Club and Colorado USA Wrestling. He has been highly honored during his career on the mats. He was inducted into the NAIA Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2007. His 1972-1973 team at Adams State was inducted into the Adams State University Hall of Fame, and also the Rocky Mountain Athletic Hall of Fame. As it turns out, he has coached at the high school level for 19 years and 6 years in college. Mike is still currently involved in education as the Assistant Principal at Redlands Middle School. He has also been involved in coaching football, soccer and golf. He said that he loves to shoot pool, talk wrestling, play fantasy football while also spending a great deal of time with his grandchildren.
