Don`s teams at Hartford have enjoyed enormous success, compiling a 436-106-5 dual meet record. In the Wisconsin Little Ten Conference, his teams have won 19 team titles and 93 individual titles. In state competition, his teams have captured 14 Regional and 12 Sectional Championships. His team captured the State Championship in 1990 and also won the WIAA State Individual Championship as awarded by the WWCA in 2002 and 2005. Among those are, 1990 Wisconsin Wrestling Man of the Year and District 6 Coach of the Year honors six times. Don believes that the success of the Hartford Program is not all his doing. He shares that success by saying, "WE really have a special and unique wrestling situation here in Hartford. Our wrestling club is a model club in every aspect. Our coaching staff, from the youth, middle school and high school programs is centered on kids and their development as athletes and just as importantly, their development as young people with a sound value system. The Hartford High School Board long ago recognized the value of wrestling and provides five coaches for the 50 plus athletes that compete annually in our high school program. The success of the Hartford Wrestling Program is a united and collective effort, not just the work of a single individual. I am very fortunate to be surrounded by great people!" Don has two sons, Andrew and Kyle who are both educators.
