Rich Aggen graduated from Tinley Park High School in Illinois in 1973 and was a two-year conference and district champion.
Yet his biggest accomplishments on the mat were still to come.
Rich graduated from Adams State College in 1978, compiling a 77-14-5 career record and finishing in the top eight in the NAIA national tournament in 1974 and 1976. He also was a MIWA champion in 1977.
It was after graduation that he went directly into coaching.
Rich became the head coach at Fort Lupton in 1978 and continued through 1992. He also was the District Athletic Director at Fort Lupton from 1992-99. He led the Blue Devils to 13 consecutive league championships from 1979-1991 while winning three state 2A titles (1981, 1986 and 1987), being the state runner-up three times (1980, 1985 and 1991), finishing third three times (1982, 1983 and 1988) and fourth four times (1979, 1984, 1989 and 1990). He coached 15 individual state champions and was named Coach of the Year in 1981, 1986 and 1987.
He also served with several youth organizations and was also the executive director of facilities and business services for the Adams 12 Five Star District from 2005-10.
Ten of Rich's wrestlers went on to become coaches or officials.
While coaching, he also earned his master's degree in industrial and construction technology in 1987.
He was an industrial science teach at both Fort Lupton Middle School and Fort Lupton Senior High School and later served as the school's athletic director, assistant principal and principal.
