Samuel (Sammy) Julian

Samuel “Sammy” Julian is a 2007 graduate of Kutztown University and competed in 2003 and 2004 with a career record of 7-13 and graduate of Blue Mountain High School where he achieved a record of 64-33. Julian has been officiating since the early 2000s and began earning awards for his performance in 2003 while still in high school. Since then, he has won the 2009 Glen Blackman Award (now called the Zach Errett Award), the 2019 Bill Stecklein Award, and most recently at the 2022 Senior World Championships he was awarded the very prestigious Golden Whistle Award from the International Federation for wrestling, United World Wrestling (UWW). Julian has officiated two Olympic games so far, as well as numerous domestic and international events including multiple Olympic Team Trials and World Team Trials. Perhaps even more importantly, Julian is instrumental in the mentorship and development of new officials. He gives back not only to the wrestling community but to his local community and represents the best parts of USA Wrestling. Sammy is a proud member of Pennsylvania USA Wrestling and a member of its board serving as Membership Director. In 2003, he was the PA USA Wrestling Official of the Year and the 2014 USWOA (Rick Tucci) Official of the Year.

Julian has collected his share of awards during his years at Blue Mountain and Pottsville and was a winner of the Arnold Delin award given to a student promoting diversity and acceptance. Julian is currently a Special Education Teacher at Schuylkill Haven where he teaches autistic support. Julian is a current resident of Schuylkill Haven and is the son of Samuel Sr and Terry Julian. Sam also has a sister Stephanie Light.
