ZAGREB, Croatia – During the final session of the 2026 Zagreb Open, 2025 World Team member Cohlton Schultz earned a silver medal at 130 kg. Schultz finished the day going 3-1, highlighted by a victory over the reigning World silver medalist during the early session at Arena Zagreb.

For gold at 130 kg, Schultz found himself up against three-time Olympic medalist and seven-time World champion Riza Kayaalp of Türkiye. After a scoreless opening 90 seconds, Schultz was hit with passivity to fall behind, 1-0. Then, from par terre, Kayaalp turned Schultz three times to extend his advantage to 7-0.

Schultz picked up a point with 2:15 left in the match from passivity by Kayaalp. Schultz could not capitalize and lost a 7-1 decision.

With silver on Sunday, Schultz has now medaled five times in his last seven international competitions.

In the bronze medal match at 72 kg, 2020 Olympian and 2025 World Team member Alejandro Sancho lost an 11-0 technical fall to Uzbekistan’s Shakhzod Kuchkorov.

At 82 kg, turns following passivity in both matches proved to be the difference.

2021 World Team member Jesse Porter was turned three times from the bottom position to fall behind 7-0. Porter did convert a reversal on the final turn to make it 7-1. However, he was unable to overcome the deficit in a 7-2 decision against 2022 World Championships qualifier Ibragim Magomadov of Kazakhstan.

Age-group World medalist Beka Melelashvili had the early lead after earning a point from Iran’s Mohammad Mokhtari’s penalty. In the second period, age-group World medalist Mokhtari took advantage of his passivity point and turned Melelashvili four times and collected the 10-1 technical fall following a U.S. challenge.

Following the five-day tournament, Team USA collected 21 total medals across men’s and women’s freestyle and Greco-Roman.
