Olympians Dake, Lee, Parris Headline 2026 U.S. Open Senior Men’s Freestyle Field

By David Gerhart
USA Wrestling

A star-studded field of wrestlers is set to take the mat next week in Las Vegas for the 2026 U.S. Open Championships. The field consists of Olympians, World champions, age-group World champions, NCAA champions and up-and-coming stars on the domestic and international circuits.

Over 390 wrestlers, including several winners of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame's Dave Schultz High School Excellence Award, have entered the Senior men’s freestyle division. Action takes place April 24-25 at The Expo at World Market Las Vegas.

Online registration is open through April 19, leaving the possibility for several more top names to enter the field, which is expected.

What’s At Stake

In one of the toughest wrestling tournaments held each year, the winner of the 10 Senior men’s freestyle weight classes earns a spot at 2026 Final X, presented by Kerberos Capital Management. Final X is set for Friday, June 19, at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

Final X will determine the 2026 U.S. Senior World Team in men’s and women’s freestyle. In total, 20 weight classes will be contested, 10 in each discipline. The top two U.S. athletes in each weight class will wrestle a best-of-three series at Final X to determine the U.S. representative at the 2026 Senior World Championships in Manama, Bahrain.

Wrestlers To Watch

In a field featuring international veterans, up-and-coming stars and newcomers looking to make a name for themselves, many U.S. Open wrestlers have Olympic, Senior World and age-group World backgrounds.

Olympians Kyle Dake, Spencer Lee and Mason Parris are set to take the mat in Las Vegas. Two-time Olympic bronze medalist Dake is set to compete at 86 kg for the second-straight year after finishing second in 2025. Olympic silver medalist Lee and Parris return to the U.S. Open for the first time since 2023, competing at 57 kg and 125 kg, respectively.

2023 World champion Vito Arujau moves up a weight class to 65 kg, presumably with LA28 in mind for Olympic qualification. 2017 World silver medalist James Green comes into this year’s event at 74 kg after finishing as the runner-up at 70 kg last year.

A total of 10 entries have previous Senior World Team experience. David Carr (74 kg), Jax Forrest (61 kg) and Wyatt Hendrickson (125 kg) joined Lee on the 2025 team. Joining Dake, Parris, Arujau and Green on previous World Teams include Chance Marsteller (79 kg) and Seth Gross (61 kg).

A total of 28 entrants have won age-group World medals for Team USA.

A complete list of entries for all 10 Senior men’s freestyle weight classes is available below.

Four Weights to Watch

61 kg

Young stars coming off strong NCAA Championship performances last month headline the weight class. 2025 World Team member and U23 World champion Jax Forrest looks to repeat as U.S. Open champion. However, a rematch of the 2026 NCAA final could be on tap between Forrest and Ben Davino. Joining the duo at 61 kg is age-group World medalist Nic Bouzakis and 2022 Senior World Team member Seth Gross. Austin DeSanto, who has three international medals this season, and 2015 NCAA champion Nathan Tomasello are also in the mix.

65 kg

A mix of youth and experience is littered throughout the weight class. 2023 World champion Vito Arujau moves up from 61 kg to 65 kg for this year’s U.S. Open. Arujau has stiff competition from reigning U.S. Open champion Joey McKenna. NCAA champions Jesse Mendez and Aden Valencia also look to make their mark in the weight class. Age-group World medalists Beau Bartlett, Bo Bassett and Brock Hardy are also set to compete at 65 kg.

86 kg

Two-time Olympic medalist Kyle Dake is featured at 86 kg and will have a familiar face in the field in 2024 NCAA champion Parker Keckeisen. Dake and Keckeisen just faced off at RAF 07 with Dake coming out on top, 7-1. Four NCAA champions are set to compete in the weight class, with 2026 champion Max McEnelly and 2019 champion Mekhi Lewis joining Dake and Keckeisen. McEnnelly and Lewis also have U20 World titles under their belts.

125 kg

The heavyweight division looks to carry some big-time matchups at the U.S. Open, with 2024 Olympian Mason Parris and 2025 World Team member Wyatt Hendrickson among those in the field. 2024 NCAA champion and two-time age-group World medalist Greg Kerkvliet debuts at the U.S. Open this year. Fellow age-group World medalists Anthony Cassioppi, Koy Hopke, Jimmy Mullen and Jordan Wood add to the depth of the 125 kg division.
