- 1957 graduate of Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) - B.S Industrial Management and Geology
- 1967 graduate of Arizona State University - M.S. Mathematics and Natural Science
- 49 years as a high school teacher, wrestling coach, track/cross country coach and athletic director
- 2 years (1958-60) - North Fulton High School (Atlanta, GA)
- 5 years (1960-65) - Dykes High School (Atlanta)
- 42 years (1965-2007) - Jefferson High School
- A star athlete in his own right - Georgia state AAU pole vault champion as a high schooler; a 3X letterman at Georgia Tech as a nationally ranked pole vaulter and javelin thrower; a world ranked decathlete in 1957
- His Jefferson wrestling teams claimed four Georgia High School Association (GHSA) state championships with 15 state runner-up teams; mentored 108 individuals to GHSA state championships
- Compiled a coaching record of 390-98-6 (79.6% winning percentage)
- Selected 27X as Jefferson's STAR Teacher for his excellence as a classroom teacher
- GHSA state track meet (Georgia Olympics) director/host for two decades, leading numerous teams and individual to track and field state championships
- 2003 Inductee into the Georgia Athletic Coaches Hall of Fame and numerous other halls of fame
- Wife, Beverly; children: Doug (deceased), Jeff, Chris, Karen, Katherine
