Pete Russo Newberg and Canby High Schools, West Linn/Wilsonville School District Newberg, Oregon

Pete Russo is recognized for his years of dedication to the development of leadership and citizenship in young people through the sport of wrestling

-Three time Oregon wrestling "Coach of the Year"

-Directed AAAA State Tournament for 16 Years

Coach Russo started his coaching career at Newberg High School. During the 9 years he had 6 District championships and one state championship. He had 3 third place finishers in the state tournament

Pete moved to Canby High School and during the next 7 years won 3 district championships and placed second in the state tournament

Individually, Coach Russo coached over 50 district champions and 22 state finalists. Eight or his we esters won an Oregon State High School Championship

For 12 years he directed the AAAA State Tournament and 4 years he directed the combined tournaments.

Pete is was the athletic director at West Linn/Wilsonville High Schools. He was named Oregon athletic director of the year in 1995 and in 2000 received a citation award by the NFHS for outstanding athletic administration.

For his dedication and lasting influence on wrestling, Pete Ruso is presented the National Wrestling Hall of Fame's "Lifetime Service to Wrestling” award for the class of 2003.
