Robert "Jack" Olson Sutherlin, Marist, Churchill and Stanfield High Schools Fall Creek, Oregon
Jack Olson is recognized for his years of dedication to the development of leadership and citizenship in young people through the sport of wrestling.
* Only Oregon Coach to have a state champion in AA, AAA, and AAAA
* Lake County Wrestling Commissioner 1989-1996
* Member of the National Federation of Referees
Coach Olson was so impressed with the Oregon State program coached by Dale Thomas, that he transferred his sophomore year. He graduated from OSU in 1967 and started his teaching and coaching career at Stanfield High School. At Stanfield, he coached several state champions with Ray King being the most well known.
From Stanfield he went to Churchill where he coached their 1st state champion, Larry Johnson. From Churchill, Coach Olson went to Marist High School where he coached for the next 18 years. He coached many state champions including Danny Nugent, Larry Nugent, Pat Plourd, Billy Nugent and Scott Revis.
In 1975 Jack took a Cultural Exchange team to Japan and in 1984 his Cultural Exchange team went to South Africa. He has been a member of the National Federation of Referees since 1986. In 1989 he was named Wrestling Commissioner for Lane County, a position he held until 1996.
For his dedication and lasting influence on wrestling, Jack Olson is presented the National Wrestling Hall of Fame's "Lifetime Service to Wrestling" award for the class of 2003.
