Donald Meyers

Don Meyers won the 138 pound 1952 Minnesota State High School Championship for University High in Minneapolis, the same high school that distinguished National Wrestling Hall of Famer Alan Rice wrestled for and graduated from. Don Wrestled at the University of Minnesota for Wally Johnson and also served as an assistant to Wally at the U. Don had an outstanding 34 year career as an educator, coach, administrator and official. Don coached for 10 years at Fridley High School, and they won the 1967 Minnesota State Wrestling Championship and set a record at the time with 59 straight dual meet wins. Don served as the site manager for the MSHSL Wrestling Tournament from 1979 - 1999, and was named on the Board of Directors. Don officiated for 42 years, from 1955 - 1997, where he officiated at the NAIA, NCAA I, NCAA II, and NCAA III National Tournaments, along with our State High School Tournament. He was the Head Official in a number of these tournaments. Don was the MSHSL Rules Interpreter for 12 years, and served a four year term on the National High School Federation Wrestling Rules Committee for Section V. He is a member of a number of Hall of Fames, including the first wrestling coach/official to be inducted into the MSHSL Hall of Fame in 2001 and a charter member of the Bartelma MWCA Coaches Hall.
