Rometo “Rummy” George Macias placed third in the Iowa state tournament at 105 pounds for Davenport, Iowa High School as a senior.

Rummy went on to wrestle at the University of Iowa, where he finished second at the 1948 NCAA Championships and was a two-time Big Ten Conference champion and four-time place winner.

After serving as an assistant for two years at the University of Iowa, Rummy had a storied 38-year coaching career at Mankato State University, now called Minnesota State University at Mankato. His teams earned three national team championships and he coached 93 All-Americans and 19 national champions in all divisions.

A real testimony to Rummy's induction is that 145 of his wrestlers became high school head coaches in Minnesota and across the country, even Alaska.

Rummy served as president of the NAIA, NCAA, College Division and the National Wrestling Coaches Association and he has authored two books on wrestling.

He is a member of 11 Hall of Fames and hosted seven Minnesota State High School Wrestling Championship Tournaments.

Considered by many as the "Grandfather of Minnesota Wrestling," Rummy had the new wrestling complex at the Glen Taylor Sports Complex named in his honor.

He just completed his fifth season as head wrestling coach at Cardinal Newman High School in West Palm Beach, Florida.
