Don Dravis

Don was a 1955 graduate of Blue Earth High School where he earned a fourth place finish and a state runner-up finish in the Blue Earth Wrestling Dynasty. Don took his talents to nearby Mankato State where he was third in the NAIA National Championships under "legendary" coach Rummy Macias in 1957 and their team won the first-ever NAIA Championship. Don accepted his only teaching and coaching position at Staples High School in 1963. Don coached through 1995 and taught Industrial Technology. Don's teams recorded 7 state championships and 4 runner up finishes, including an impressive run of 6 in a row from1980 - 1985. Don coached 14 individual state champions, the Don Dravis Coached Teams were 401-50, and it earned Don the National High School Wrestling Coach of the Year honors in 1980 and 1981. Don became only the third wrestling to be inducted in the MSHSL Hall of Fame in 2002. He is a member of the MWCA Bartelma Coaches Hall of Fame. The real testimony to Don's Hall of Fame Coaching career is that at one time, he had 38 of his alumni wrestlers as either head or assistant coaches at the Minnesota State Wrestling Tournament. Don continues to officiate today and serves as Section 7AA Representative.
