Alex Steinbergh
Few are so deserving of this honor as Alex Steinbergh. Alex's wrestling career began back in 1959 while attending Cornell University; however, it was after graduation in 1962 when he really developed winning ways taking home the New England A.A.U.,the Eastern A.A.U., and the Lake Erie A.A.U. championships on several occasions. In 1965 Alex was awarded the Rappaport Trophy as New England's Outstanding Wrestler and in 1973 won the Maccabiah Games in Israel.
Alex is fond of pointing out that, when he retired from active wrestling he probably had more losses than wins. Alex believes very few men with his early lack of success would have continued with the sport for so long and so diligently. Nevertheless for the last 10 years of his wrestling career he was extremely successful winning a large amount of local, regional and open tournaments. A particularly dramatic aspect of his style was his penchant for multiple early pins. In any tournament the odds were he would win most falls. With his ability to pin his opponent he was a factor in any match with any competitor.
Although Alex's success is exceeded by few in New England wrestling, his major contributions to the sport have been his constant generosity of time, efforts and financial support toward almost any aspect of the sport. To this day Alex continues to coach individual wrestlers on a mat in his basement. Both Cornell and Harvard Universities have been recipients of his regular generous financial support as have countless other organizations and individuals.
Alex has also employed so many wrestlers at his firm that cauliflower ears are thought by some to be an occupational hazard of the Real Estate business. In fact at any given time it is likely that it would be difficult for any good college team to defeat a team fielded by Alex's company, Resource Capital Group. Alex resides in Cambridge with his wife Deborah and has 3 children Shanna, David and Laura.
