Dick Griffin
Dick Griffin's wrestling coaching career covers close to 30 years, beginning in 1970 as coach at Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School and then later at Milton Academy. As coach of Hamilton-Wenham from 1971-1974, Dick's teams compiled a record of 44-13-2. He won 3 Cape Ann Dual Meet Championships and 3 Cape Ann Tournament Championships. Dick took over the coaching at Milton Academy in 1975 and remained there until 1997. During that time his teams compiled a record of 221-65-7, and they earned 11 Independent School Dual Meet Championships and 7 Graves Kelsey Tournament Championships. Overall Dick's record includes 14 Dual Meet Championships, 10 League Tournament Championships and 1 New England Prep Championship. Dick has also been active and instrumental in helping to streamline and organize numerous Prep Wrestling Tournaments.
Dick was a coach who cared about each individual and taught his teams to do the same, yet at the same time Dick was also a demanding "Drill Master" who drove his athletes to strive for their best. Dick's teams reflected the unity and enthusiasm which came from his emphasis on wrestling as a "team sport" in which everyone's contribution counted. Dick also brought to his coaching a sense of humor and most importantly, he taught his wrestlers to value all of the lessons tangible and intangible that wrestling teaches.
