During his wrestling days at Manheim Township High School in Neffsville, PA, Gamber employed goal-setting techniques that he learned from his father. He has continued to use these same techniques throughout life. This family tradition has influenced his success as a businessman, community advocate, husband and father. After graduating from Manheim Township High School in 1956, where he wrestled for six years in both junior and senior high. Gamber attended Williamsport Technical Institute, graduating in 1959. Gamber worked as a tool and die maker and die designer for RCA and AMP from 1959 until 1967. ln 1967, Gamber joined the family business Dutch Gold Honey, Inc., which his parents had founded in 1947. A small, but growing business, Dutch Gold Honey enjoyed the support of former F&M College Wrestling Coach Roy Phillips. The business was located in a neighborhood near F&M College and Phillips was a loyal customer. He would purchase a 2 lb. jar of honey before each match. His wrestlers would pass the jar around, sharing the sweet liquid for a quick energy boost. The problem that Phillips encountered was that his wrestlers also shared their colds after dipping into the same jar of honey. Phillips suggested to Gamber and his father, W. Ralph Gamber that they pack their honey in one-ounce "energy" packs, which he could give to his wrestlers. Applying his goal setting techniques from wrestling to ills business practices, Gamber, along with his mother, father, two sisters and wife Kitty, was able to stimulate the growth of Dutch Gold Honey, Inc., Lancaster, PA into the largest independent honey packer in the United States. He now serves as Chairman and CEO for the company, which includes McLure's Honey and Maples Products, Littleton, NH. Together these two companies sell more than 60 million pounds of honey and maple syrup annually. Gamber is a partner in Dutch Gold Business Center, Lancaster, PA and serves as Vice President of En-R-G Foods, Inc. of Steamboat Springs, CO. Gamber has been very influential in the honey industry. During a seven-year term on the National Honey Board, which is under the guidance of the US Agricultural Marketing Services, he served as Chairman, Vice Chairman and Ex Officio officer. He is also a past President of the National Honey Packers and Dealers Association. Under Gamber's tenure as CEO of Dutch Gold Honey, the company was given the opportunity to contribute to the Roy Phillips Endowment Fund at F & M College, which was established to ensure the continuation of the college's wrestling program. As the initial donor to the endowment, Dutch Gold Honey was given the opportunity to name the wrestling room. In recognition of his support of Dutch Gold Honey and in honoring his love of the sport, the room was appropriately named the Roy Phillips Wrestling Room. Gamber has the honor of serving as Chairman of his family's foundation, the Gamber Foundation. The foundation supports numerous charities and research for the honey industry and offers scholarships for the children of Dutch Gold Honey employees. He is also a member of the Fulton Bank Advisory Board, has served on the Water Street Rescue Mission Finance Committee, Lancaster, PA, and served a 12-year term on the East Hempfield Parks and Rec Committee, Lancaster, PA. Gamber serves as Vice President of the Union County Sportsmen's Club, Weikert, PA and as Vice President of Hironimus Union Church in Weikert, PA. Gamber resides in Lancaster, PA with his wife of 40 years, Kitty. They have two children and six grandchildren. In his spare time, Gamber enjoys golfing, fly fishing and hunting. His goal-setting techniques have had a strong influence on his son, Bill Gamber Ill, who continued the wrestling tradition at Hempfield High School, and at Lock Haven University. Employing these same goal-setting techniques, Gamber Ill is a successful competitor in lronman Competitions, having participated in 13 lronman competitions in Hawaii, New Zealand, British Columbia, and Lake Placid, NY.
