Captain Stephen Archer
Outstanding American from Floridia "¢ Awarded the FILA Gold Star "¢ Awarded Silver and Bronze Star "¢ Refereed 2 Olympics The late Captain Archer started his wrestling career at the US Naval Academy in 1932. From 1932 until his death in 1996, Coach Archer's contributions to wrestling were worldwide. He began programs wherever he was stationed and helped establish tournaments, raised money for individual wrestlers, organized culture exchanges and promoted freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling. Captain Archer coached the All Navy team and served as a world-class officials who officiated several World Championships and 2 Olympics. His wrestling contributions were many, but so was his 30 year Navy career, which included the following military decorations: Silver Star, Legion of Merit with a combat "V", Bronze Star, Navy Commendation, Order of the British Empire, Order of George the First from Greece and a letter of Commendation from Fleet Admiral Nimitz for removing a demolition charge and two torpedoes from a Japanese Midget Submarine, which ran aground in Hawaii after the attach on Pearl Harbor. Captain Archer, the 30 year Navy Captain, wrestler, official, contributor, US Olympic Committee member, National Secretary for AAU, husband and father, is now honored as the National Wrestling Hall of Fame's "Outstanding American from the State of Florida"
