J. Patten
J. Allen Patten Is recognized for his years of dedication to the development of leadership and citizenship in young people through the sport of wrestling. Coached 17 years - Member of U S Olympic Committee 12 years - Named US Scholastic Wrestling News 1968 "Wrestling Man of the Year". J. Allen Patten has done it all. He coached high school wrestling for 17 years, officiated three NCAA Championships, one NAIA, and three National AAU Freestyle and Greco Roman Championships. He also officiated in the 1984 Olympic Games. Patten established and underwrote the first sanctioned High School Wrestling exchange program with Japan in 1962. He organized and underwrote the first Junior World Wrestling Championship, held at Boulder in 1969. He traveled extensively to make arrangements for high school exchange program s with all continents, except Australia, yet in 53 years he has never missed a Colorado High School Wrestling Championship tournament. Patten was a member of the US Olympic Committee 12 years, 4 years as Financial Chairman. He is a member of FILA International Federation of Wrestling, Past President of National AAU Wrestling and Colorado Wrestling Coaches Association. He was previously elected to the University of Colorado Athletic Hall of Honors. J. Allen Patten's commitment to excellence has been the driving force behind his many accomplishments and he has given a lifetime of service to the youth of America through the sport of wrestling.
