Frank is recognized for his years of dedication to the development of leadership and citizenship in young people through the sport of wrestling. Coach Gutierrez made his mark coaching his Alma Mater, Liberty High School in Bethlehem. In his 29-year career, 1958-1987, his wrestling teams won 327 matches and lost 124 with six ties. Included in that span were 3 undefeated teams, 4 District XI team titles and 4 East Penn League titles. He coached 6 PIAA State Champions, 8 runners-up and 10 state place winners. He also coached 21 Northeast Regional champions and 38 District XI champions. Two of his wrestlers went on to become NCAA Division I champions, John Fritz, at Penn State, and Matt Reiss, at North Carolina State. In his days as a competitor, Frank wrestled at Muhlenberg College, where he was a four-time Middle Atlantic Conference champion with a career record of 59-2. After college, while serving in the Army, he kept his wrestling skills sharp, winning two individual 4th Army championships, and laid the foundation of his coaching career as teams he piloted went undefeated and won a pair of 4th Army team championships. For his dedication and lasting influence on wrestling, Gutierrez is presented the National Wrestling Hall of Fame's "Lifetime Achievement Award" for the class of 2000.
