Bill Willson

Bill coached wrestling for 18 years and had a win loss record of 151-51-3. He coached at Wheaton Academy in Illinois for 2 years, Pontiac Central, Ml. for two years and had the most success at Pontiac Northern H.S. in Michigan, where coached 14 years and had a dual meet record of 129-23-3. Individually, he coached 52 Inter-Lakes Conference Champions, 24 Oakland County Champions, 5 Oakland County Outstanding Wrestlers, 23 District Champions, 28 Regional Champions, 86 State Qualifiers, 26 State Place winners, 11 State Finalists and 5 State Champions. He also had 2 High School All-Americans. His 1967 team at Pontiac Northern won the Team State Championship, and in 1968 and 1970 they were Team State Runner-ups. They won or shared the Inter-Lakes Conference Championship 10 times, were Oakland County Champs 5 times, District Champions 3 times and won 5 Regional team titles. Bill served as President of the Michigan High School Wrestling Coaches Association (64-66), President of the Oakland County Wrestling Association (66-68), a member of the Rules Advisory Committee (National Federation of SHSAA in 67, 70 and 1971). He was on the Michigan High School Wrestling committee in 1963, 64, 66, 68, 71 and 1972. In 1969 he was the U.S. Junior World Coach. In addition, Bill was voted Michigan High School Coaches and Officials Association "Coach of the Year" in 1968 and 1970, Oakland County "Coach of the Year " in 1967, inducted into the Michigan Wrestling Association Hall of Fame in 1978 and the Michigan High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1981.
