Carl (Ed) Burton

After graduating from Chico State College in 1964, Coach Burton started his coaching career at San Ramon high school in Danville, California. He became head coach at Oregon City high school in 1977 where he coached for the next eight years. During his coaching career he coached 53 district champions, 25 State place winners and 4 Oregon state champions. In 1980, one of his former wrestlers, Genaro Zamudio, became a NAIA national champion from Southern Oregon University.

He has been on the Oregon State Athletic Association State Wrestling Tournament Committee for 35 years and has been the announcer for every state championship Tournament since 1984 as well as producing the souvenir program at the state tournament.

For his dedication and lasting influence on Wrestling, Carl Edward Burton is presented the National Wrestling Hall of Fame’s “Lifetime Achievement to Wrestling” Award for the class of 2000.
