Coach Phil Lockcuff is a 1955 graduate of South Williamsport High School and a 1960 graduate of Bloomsburg State College. His first coaching position was under the guidance of Larry Sinibaldi at Shikellamy High School. In 1973 Phil became head coach at Shikellamy, and the rest is history. Phil will retire this year as a coach, but his accomplishments at Shikellamy will never be forgotten. In his coaching career his teams finished undefeated 5 times, won 13 District IV team titles, captured 7 Northeast Regional team titles, claimed 3 PI AA State Class AAA team titles, and won 83% of all dual meets wrestled. Individually, he coached 81 District IV champions, 25 Northeast Regional Champions, 42 PIAA State place winners and 9 PIAA State Champions. Phil became the coaching example to others in the state and being a teacher, he influenced people in the classroom. By making his students feel important with open communication, he brought out the best in his students. This leadership in the classroom carried into coaching and the quality teams that he coached helped earn him the Class AAA "Coach of the Year" 3 times. When Phil was inducted into the State Wrestling Hall of Fame, we think the fine people at Shikellamy said it best: You are a TEACHER: "One who instructs by percept, example or experience; a LEADER: One who has commanding authority or influence; a COACH: One who instructs or trains in fundamentals of competitive sport and team strategy; and a FRIEND: One attached to another by affection or esteem.
