Gordon Jarman is recognized for his years of dedication to the development of leadership and citizenship in young people through the sport of dressing.

Coach 23 years.

Coach Jarman graduated from Pacific University in 1972 where he wrestled for four years. His first coaching job came the following year at Twality junior high school where he was the freshman coach. In 1977 coach Jarman was named head coach at St. Helens high school, where he remained until 1995. During his years at St. Helens, his teams won seven district championships, including six in a row from 1987 through 1992, and on two occasions won the Oregon Wrestling Classic Dual Meet Championships.

Gordon started the kids wrestling program at St. Helens and ran postseason freestyle and Greco Roman teams for local athletes. He coach the Oregon National Juniors team three times during summer trips to Iowa for the national tournament. Besides his coaching involvement and being secretary of the Oregon National Juniors, he still found time to officiate at numerous freestyle and Greco Roman tournaments.

For his dedication and lasting influence on wrestling in Oregon, Gordon L. Jarman is presented the National Wrestling Hall of Fame’s “Lifetime Service to Wrestling“ award for the class of 2001.
