A legendary figure in Missouri wrestling circles, Scott Schatzman, began wrestling at the age of 6 ½, under the close guidance of his parents, the late Joel and Beverly Schatzman. Even as a youth wrestler, competing for the Bonhomme wrestling club and later Team St. Louis, it was clear that Scott stood out amongst his peers. He began winning state and national titles before he began his high school career. As a high school student at Parkway Central High School, Scott accomplished what no other wrestler in Missouri history had accomplished prior, going undefeated all 4 years and claiming 4 state championships, while attaining a GPA in excess of 4.0. Additionally, Scott was an accomplished freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestler, winning U24 Nationals in freestyle and representing the U.S. in the Pan-American Games (2nd), U20 Nationals in Greco-Roman, and Jr. National titles in both styles. In total, Scott earned seven medals in Jr. National competition. As a cadet, Scott qualified for the World Team in Greco-Roman by virtue of winning the cadet national title, where he finished 7th in 1993. A highly sought-after recruit, Scott chose to attend Northwestern University, where he continued to garner accolades in the sport. As a true college freshman, Scott finished 7th at the NCAA championships at the 126 lbs. weight class. Following the season, he was recognized by the Big Ten conference as the “Freshmen of the Year.” After redshirting in 1996-97, Scott again earned “All-American” honors as a redshirt sophomore finishing 8th in the 141 lbs. weight class. Scott had a setback that year when he suffered significant injuries to his shoulder, but bounced back as a senior when he finished 5th at the 2000 NCAA Championships in St. Louis. After graduating from Northwestern as a scholar-athlete, Scott continued his studies at Mizzou Law School, where he also served as an assistant wrestling coach under Brain Smith from 2000 – 2004. It was during these years the Mizzou wrestling program began to soar to unprecedented heights. Scott served as a graduate assistant wrestling coach for one year at Columbia University, after which time he began his career at an attorney.   Today, Scott runs his own law firm, The Schatzman Law Firm, specializing in for-profit and non-profit business/corporate representation and succession planning, commercial and residential real estate representation, estate planning, contractual negotiations, and litigation matters relating to these areas of practice. Despite a successful legal career, Scott has never stayed too far way from the sport of wrestling. Many of his clients are part of the wrestling community – individuals and businesses. He has served as a member/participant of the following organizations: Wrestlers in Business Member; Board of wreSTL from 2019 to present; St. Louis Wrestling Officials Association; USA Wrestling. Today, he continues to share his vast knowledge of the sport by assisting with the Hillsboro Youth Wrestling program. Scott and his wife, Ann, have two sons: Jacob (12) and Samuel (11).
