Stan Lampe

May 16, 1936 - February 13, 2023

Stan Lampe spent one year at Paonia High School before moving to Ft. Morgan High School to begin a 27-year career as head wrestling coach (1959-1986).

His teams produced a dual meet record of 275-59-5, which included seven undefeated seasons and 91 consecutive dual meet wins. His teams also accounted for 25 tournament wins, 15 District/Regional championships, 16 Northern Conference championships and seven state championship titles including five consecutive titles from1969 to 1973).

He coached 16 individual state champions. In addition to the accomplishments of his teams, Lampe started the first youth wrestling program in Ft. Morgan and was involved with summer and exchange programs.

He was voted Coach of the Year at state, regional and national levels and served on various wrestling associations and committees. He was named National High School Wrestling Coach of the Year in 1987 and was elected to the Colorado High School Coaches Hall of Fame in 1997.

Stan was involved in refereeing for 26 years and was president of the Colorado Wrestling Officials Association.

From 1985 until his retirement in 1995 he also served as athletic director at Ft. Morgan High School.

In 2022, the Fort Morgan School District named the high school gymnasium in his honor.
