Tracy Borah

Tracy Borah is recognized for his years of dedication to the development of leadership and citizenship in young people through the sport of wrestling.

Coached 35 years - Pioneer of the Wrestling Camp Concept - Founder of the Mountain Intercollegiate Wrestling Association.

Tracy Borah started his coaching career in 1950 at Sedgwick High School, moving the next year to Haxtun High School.

In 1954, he started the wrestling program at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling.

Two years later he moved to Western State College of Colorado, where he remained until retirement in 1985. His teams won NCAA College Division Team Championships in 1963 and 1964.

Borah was a pioneer of the wrestling camp concept and founded the Rocky Mountain Wrestling Camp in 1963. It is still in existence. Over 7,700 young men attended these camps under his direction.

Borah also started the state wrestling championship concept.

Because of his expertise, he was selected to serve on the National Wrestling Rules Committee. He served on that committee for three years.

For his success and many contributions, Western State College endowed a wrestling scholarship in Borah's name and dedicated the Mountaineer Sports Hall of Fame Room in his behalf.

He was selected as the Colorado Coach of the Year and in 1990 was elected to the Colorado High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

In 1992, Borah received the Colorado Wrestling Coaches Association Meritorious Distinguished Service Award.

These awards paid tribute to the fact that over 150 of Tracy's former students and athletes went on to coach the sport of wrestling.

He was an inaugural inductee into the NCAA Division II National Wrestling Hall of Fame and the Western State College's Mountaineer Sports Hall of Fame.

In 1998, he was posthumously inducted into the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame.

The positive impact Tracy Borah has made on the lives of the many young people with whom he has worked is even greater than his coaching accomplishments.

He has given a lifetime of service to the youth of America through the sport of wrestling.
