Steve Capoferri

Steve started wresting in sixth grade and continued under Hall of Famer, Coach Mike Colley at West Chester East High School. Steve graduated from Elizabethtown College in 1990, where he was a member of the wrestling team, and was All Ches-Mont League.

Steve had a 20-year coaching career, starting as an assistant at Susquenita High School for a year, then as the Head Coach at York Suburban High School for 8 years, before returning to his alma mater, Elizabethtown College for 6 years. He finished his coaching career with 4 years at Millersville University. Steve was twice named the NCAA East Regional Coach of the Year and once as the MAC Coach of the Year. He coached a total of 9 Division 3, and 14 Division 1 National Qualifiers. Steve retired from coaching in 2006.

In 2005, Steve founded River Rock Academy, a PDE approved licensed academic school serving at-risk students in grades K-12 with emotional and learning needs. River Rock Academy serves more than 70 School Districts in the central, south central, and eastern counties of PA and has eight campus locations. Steve continues as a very engaged CEO of River Rock Academy and Day Treatment.

Steve actively serves his community on the Board of Directors for the Snider Hockey Foundation, as and Chairman of the Fund Raising Committee for the Bowers Center for Sports Fitness and Wellness Center at Elizabethtown College. He is a member of the Elizabethtown College Leadership Council and assisted fundraising for E-town to establish a full-time wrestling coaching position. He continues to support the wrestling program. He is a Board Member for Men of Iron, an organization equipping men through one on one mentorships to become Godly leaders, and challenges them to growth in their faith, family, friends, fitness, and finances.

Giving back is one of the highest and most noble character traits. Steve demonstrates it well as he hires many employees with wrestling backgrounds, including Troy Sunderland, Tristan Warner, Rusty Barrick, Rob Bozart, Todd Roberts and Charlie Jacobs. Former River Rock Academy employees include Duane Bastress, Steve Borja, Neil Barnes, and Eric Walker. Steve and his family are supporters of the USA Women’s Wrestling Program.

Steve and his wife Wendy reside in Lancaster and have 3 children: Lauren, Taylor and Sarah. They have two grandsons, Bentley and Braxton.
