George Lamprinakos began collecting awards as a high school student at Allegheny High School, where he was President of the Student Body, played football and ran track. He enlisted and served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII and then attended the University of Pittsburgh. After graduation he taught and coached at Mt. Lebanon High School, where he instituted the wrestling program in 1957 and continued to coach for 31 years. During that time Coach Lamprinakos amassed a winning record of 332 wins, 129 losses, and 6 ties. This included 22 Section Championship Team Titles, 7 WPIAL Southwest Regional Championships, 6 Western Conference Championships. Individually, he produced 33 individual WPIAL Southwest Regional Champions and 13 PIAA State Champions. His accomplishments have been widely recognized and he has previously been inducted into the Western Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, the Southwestern Pennsylvania Hall of Fame as well as the Pennsylvania Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame. George was named "1973 Coach of the Year" by the Pennsylvania Amateur Wrestling Coaches Association and WPIAL AAA "Coach of the Year" in 1978, 1980 and 1981. George Lamprinakos has not only coached wresting, but has served 22 years on the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Dapper Dan Wrestling Committee, served on the Executive Committee of the Pennsylvania Amateur Wrestling Federation for 8 years and was President of the Executive Committee in 1973-1974.
