Bill Bupp
1963 Graduate of Central Michigan University earning a BS in Education and an MA. Also attended Alma College one year in 1961 MHSAA Official 1969-1986 At Central Michigan University Bill served as the manager of the Chippewa team coached by Richard "Dick" Kirchner, earning his first letter in 1963. His coaching career began in 1965-67 at North Farmington High School; Big Rapid s 1967 -68 and Alma 1968-1973 serving as the assistant coach. Served as Tournament Manager of several MHSAA District and Regional tournaments, the 1972 and 1978 &1979 Class B Final tournaments. During the late 1960's and early 1970's Wrestling representative on the Michigan High School Coaches Association Board and was president for two years. In 1971 the MIWCOA, introduced Press Awards program developed In 1971-1978 the Scholastic Wrestling News state editor position Designed/hosted what is regarded by many as the first Team/Dual Tournament in 1971. Served 1987-2003 as MHSAA Assistant Director responsible for Wrestling, Track and Cross Country later coordinated Baseball and Softball and Officials Services. Served four years on the National Federation Wrestling Rules Committee. Lead the planning and implementation of the Team/Dual Wrestling Final championships in 1988. Initiated the single-city tournament concept in 1988 which grew to include two cities (Battle Creek and Kalamazoo). Promoted the 'Division' concept in 1986 setting the stage for wrestling to become the initial MHSAA sport to divide into four nearly equal Divisions. Coordinated the development of the single-site, four-division MHSAA Individual Finals 1999- 2001 in Detroit. Coordinated the enhancement of the single-site, four division MHSAA Individual Finals 2002 in Auburn Hills. Coordinated the research and development of the Michigan Weight Monitoring Program, the second program in the nation . In March of 1970 was one of the founders of the Michigan Interscholastic Wrestling Coaches/ Officials Association {MIWCOA).
