Kevin Puebla
Kevin Puebla's winning trail began in 1973, when the Moline wrestler finished fifth in state at 119 pounds, back when the IHSA was still just a single class system. The next year, he moved up a weight class to 126 and finished fourth. And in 1975, he capped off an outstanding high school career with a state title at 126, going 37-0-1. Kevin compiled a 101-5-3 career record while going 58-0-3 in duals. While still in high school, he would also become an AAU National Champ and a two-time Junior National All-American, winning a National Greco Title, earning the USWF Tournament's Outstanding Wrestling award. Kevin was also named a Scholastic Wrestling News' First-Team All-American. Moving on to the University of Illinois, Kevin compiled 105 wins for the Illini, was an NCAA All-American and, compiling a 105-27-4 record, would become U of I's winningest career and season win leader at that time. After a six-year stint as an assistant coach at Illinois, Kevin went on to become the winningest wrestling coach in Augustana College's history. Over a 13-year span, his teams won 168 dual meets and 12 CCIW Conference championships with a .739 winning percentage. He produced 61 conference champions, 23 NCAA DIII All-Americans and four national champions. Since leaving Augustana, Kevin remains active in the sport, serving as a head table worker at the IHSA Individual State Tournament since 2007. He also served as Tournament Director for two NCAA DIII national tournaments and was host for two IHSA State Dual Tournaments held at Augustana. Kevin has been inducted into both the IWCOA and the NCAA DIII Halls of Fame. Kevin still resides in his hometown of Moline with his wife Carolyn. They have three daughters, Theresa (Ricky), Lily (Tim), and Alexis, along with three grandchildren, Charlie, Cohen and Caroline.
