David Dodson began his athletic career at Francis Scott key High School where he competed in football, wrestling and track. Upon graduating, he attended Frostburg University where he played two years of football. David earned his degree in both physical education and health. After graduating from Frostburg, David returned to Carroll County to teach and coach. He started his coaching career at his alma mater, Francis Scott Key, in the 1990-91 wrestling season. In 1993, David transferred to teach and coach at North Carroll High School. Over the next 23 years, he was able to pursue his lifetime passion of teaching and coaching wrestling. He also coached football and lacrosse. David believes the coaches and talented people that he has worked with are the reasons for his success at North Carroll, Manchester Valley High Schools and in Northern Carroll County Community. David has coached and assisted 68 Carroll County Champions, 31 Regional Champions, 41 State Place Winners and 10 State Champions. Constantly a power in Carroll County, North Carroll also qualified for the regional duals six times under Coach Dotson. At the peak of their success, North Carroll finished as the State Tournament Finalist in 2006 and followed as the State Tournament Dual Meet Finalist in 2008. To this day, these are David's greatest moments in wrestling. In 2016, David transferred to his new home, Manchester Valley HS, where he continued his teaching and coaching career. In 2018, the wrestling team qualified for the regional duals for the first time in school history. In addition to coaching, David has made a lasting impact in the wrestling community by overseeing the MPSSAA Regional and State Duals for the State of Maryland. David credits the relationships built with wrestlers, parents, coaches, the people in Northern Carroll County Community and contacts throughout Maryland as his greatest reward.
