William White

Bill White joins the Massachusetts Wrestling Hall of Fame as the first official to earn induction. While the bulk of his service to the sport has been as an official, White has contributed to wrestling at many levels.

He was first introduced to the sport while attending Springfield College, and he competed on the Springfield wrestling squad for two years. After graduating from Springfield, White went on to Braintree, Massachusetts, where he taught physical education at Braintree High School. Wrestling was an integral part of his teaching at Braintree, and he served as the school's assistant wrestling coach for six years.

After that, however, he accepted an administrative position, which made him unable to continue coaching. White was determined to continue his association with the sport and decided to become an official, beginning a tenure that would span three decades.

White was a member of the Massachusetts Interscholastic Wrestling Officials Association (MIWOA) from 1973 until 1994. During that time, he officiated over 300 dual meets, 20 state sectional tournaments, 15 state tournaments, several local tournaments, a New England Championship and five Bay State Games.

He maintained a high level of commitment to the MIWOA, serving as the Association President for two years, and spending twelve years as a member of the Executive Board. He acted as the MIWOA's representative to the State Game Officials Committee for ten years and to the State Wrestling Committee for six years.

White retired from the sport in 1994, and in the same year, he was recognized with an induction into the Massachusetts Interscholastic Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame. He currently resides in Holbrook, Massachusetts.
