Fidel is a native of Cuba. While living there, he coached 5 National Champions and was recognized as an International "Gold Medal" official. Upon arriving in Florida, Fidel, became a private business owner, and the Head Coach of Belen Jesuit Preparatory School in Miami. Since 1993 he has guided his teams to 5 FHSAA top ten team finishes, 9 individual State Champions and another 20 place winners. He has been a major part of Florida wrestling for the past 24 seasons.
