Brad Howell

Brad Howell began wrestling in Delaware with his 2 brothers. Brad was an 8X AAU National Champion and earned a scholarship at Clemson, where he was a 2X Greco-Roman All-American. In preparation for the Olympic Trials in 1992 he suffered a career-ending knee injury, just three weeks before the trials. Following his competitive years, Brad was recruited to assist his brother coaching at Caesar Rodney High School in Dover. Following his 4 very successful years at CR, Brad moved to Maryland. He began student teaching at Oakland Mills High School and soon became the head coach. Under Brad, Oakland Mills teams has accumulated 332 duals, 7 Regions, and a Dual Meet State Championship. In 20 years at Oakland Mills, he also coached National Maryland Team and was Vipers Junior League Rec coach. In 1998, he founded the Orange Crush Wrestling Club, which is over160 strong. For Brad though, it's not all about winning, it's also about building character. Brad's team has won the MPSSAA Sportsmanship Award . He won the Howard County Rec and Park's Service Award and the Sportsmanship Award by the MWOA. Two Oakland Mill's female wrestler both nominated Brad for the Courage Award recognizing his motivating influence on their lives. Brad's passion for coaching includes bringing wrestling to special needs student athletes. This was recognized in being honored by the National Autism Society for his role in promoting wrestling to Bryan Parent, a wrestler with autism. Brad's wrestlers learn about his passion for P.R.I.D.E. (physicality, respect, integrity, discipline, and empowerment) and grow into adults using the character-building ideas learned from him on the mat. Brad credits much of success to the support of his wife Kim, and children Payton and Karissa.
