Michael Frick

When you think of New Jersey wrestling certain names come to mind like Mike Caruso (St. Benedicts Prep), Chris Campbell (Westfield), Gene Mills (Depaul), Darryl Burley (Pemberton), and Bruce Baumgartner (Manchester Reg.). This list would not be complete without Mike Frick (Pope John), Sparta, New Jersey. Mike was a four time District and Region Champion, and four time finalist in the NJSIAA State Tournament. Mike joins a distinguished list of three time state Champions. His high school career W/L record was an impressive 97-1. He continued wrestling at Lehigh University where he was a three-time EIWA Champion (1973, 75, 76) and twice was voted the Outstanding Wrestler. Mike was a two-time National Champion, winning the OW in 1975, and one of his other significant accomplishments was defeating 7 past or future NCAA Champions at five different weight classes. After graduating from Lehigh University his freestyle career is highlighted by winning a bronze medal at the prestigious Tbilisi Tournament in Russia. Mike's coaching experience included being an Assistant Coach at Arizona University, Lehigh University and the Naval Academy. Mike was a head coach at Bellevidere H.S in New Jersey, and at William Allen H.S. in Pennsylvania. Later he became an assistant coach at Nazareth H.S. under Hall of Fame coach Ray Nunamaker. In 1998 he became the Junior High Coach in Nazareth and led his team to two League Championships only losing one match in three years. Mike feels that much of his success was a tribute to many outstanding coaches like Ed Perry, and Thad Turner to mention a few. Mike and Linda reside in Nazareth PA. and raised a wonderful family of four young men, Travis, Eric, Colin, and Thad. Congratulations to Mike Frick for being inducted to the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, Class of 2017.
