Edd Bankowski

• Otsego High School 1970 (student teacher/asst. wrestling coach) Conference Champions, District Champions.

• South Haven High School 1970-1971 assistant wrestling coach. District Champion

• Temperance Bedford 1971-2010 teacher/coach........coached wrestling there 18 years/3 stints/4 decades.....asst. varsity/head junior high coach, as well as co-founder of the Great Lakes Wrestling Club in 1972, which he coached for 13 years)

• Junior high record was 59-0 in tournaments and 200-4 in dual meets/98%.

• 14 undefeated teams, 4 with one loss) "Bankowski coached" teams fed 10 of the 11 state championship teams, as well as 5 of the 7 state runner-up teams.

• Asst. coach Univ. of Michigan/10+ years/continued there doing wrestling media work for at least 10 more years

• 32 years as a clinician at the University of Michigan Wrestling Camps along with numerous other camps in Ohio, Michigan and Wisconsin

• Head coach @ Oregon Cardinal Stritch/Oregon, OH. 1984...won their only team state title in 1985

• Bankowski played a direct role in the capturing of 10 team state titles and 5 state runner-up finishes at Bedford and Cardinal Stritch. Edd was a National Asst. Coach of the Year in 2000 and is in the Bedford High School Hall of Fame as well, individually as a teacher/coach, and has also been inducted with a number of the state championship teams (76, 77, 79, 82, 84, 85, 86 to date)

• FILA bronze certified coach.

• Started a wrestling video library in 1970 that may be one of the best in the country. His first "super 8/transferred to video" is USA vs. RUSSIA in a dual meet at McGaw Hall in 1971, now Welsh-Ryan arena.....(the first year ever of USA/USSR dual

• Co-chaired 3 BHS Hall of Fame banquets

• Co-chaired the 50th Anniversary of Bedford High School.

• Michigan Week/Monroe County/Bedford Township Outstanding Leadership Award 1996, 2016, 2018 •Who's Who Among America's Teachers

• In recent times, one of Edd's protege's, Dave Wlodarz, who came out of Oregon Cardinal Stritch, serves as an assistant coach at Genoa Schools in Ohio. Genoa has won back to back team dual and individual state championships in 2018 and 2019 in Division III, and had a rare 4 time state champion as well.

•In the Fall of 2023, Edd was inducted into the Michigan Wrestling Association (formerly the Michigan Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association) Hall of Fame.

•Edd has served on the NWHOF/MC board since 2016 as a trustee, treasurer, Vice President, President and currently is on the advisory board immediate to the President.
