Rich Testa
Rich Tesla started the wrestling program at Crestwood High School in 1969 and for the next 23 years was head coach of the program. He compiled an overall record or 235-139-2 during his tenure. In his 23 years as head coach, he had 20 winning seasons. During his coaching career at Crestwood, Tesla won 6 Wyoming Valley League Team Championships, 5 District Two Team Championships, 36 Individual District Two Champions, (four were voted outstanding wrestlers), 88 Northeast Regional Qualifiers, 36 Northeast Regional place winners, 4 Northeast Regional Champions, 28 State Qualifiers, 9 State place winners, and 2 State Champions (Gary Siegel 112 pounds in 1978 and Brian Rose 103 pounds in 1991). ln 1978 Crestwood High School qualified 8 of 12 wrestlers to the AA State Tournament from the always tough Northeast Region. This was a PIAA state record at the time and was later tied by AAA Shikellamy in 1985 and AA North Schuylkill 1987-88. During Testa's career at Crestwood, he cultivated great loyalty from his wrestlers. His assistant coach for 15 years was Bobby Williams. Williams came through Testa's program and attended East Stroudsburg University. After graduation, Williams joined the coaching staff at Crestwood and remained Testa's assistant until he retired. Williams left the Crestwood program at the same time. The current coaching staff at Crestwood is made up entirely of former wrestlers that Testa coached, including his son Darren. Darren Testa is currently an assistant coach for Crestwood. Darren is a graduate of West Virginia University. Testa has been honored as the District Two Coach of the Year 5 times and nominated for State Coach of the Year 5 times, and he won that honor in 1978. He is a 3-time recipient of the District Two Sportsmanship Award presented by the District Two Wrestling Officials. For these reasons and more, Rich Testa is honored by the National Wrestling Hall of Fame as a "Lifetime Service to Wrestling" award recipient.
