Randy Conrad

Randy Conrad started his wrestling career in 1967, competing for the Fighting Fraziers in the Chicago Park District. He wrestled alongside his brothers Bud and Rick, who were coached by their father Ray and uncle Roy Conrad, both IKWF pioneers. As a Franklin Park Raider, Randy wrestled in the first IKWF State Championships in 1971, placing third just two years later. A three-time state qualifier for East Leyden High School under legendary coach Chuck Farina, Randy placed third in the state as a sophomore. As a senior in 1978, he went undefeated as the 126-pound State Champion, allowing no points scored against him in the tournament. He was also a member of the 1978 East Leyden record-setting State Championship team that boasted four state titlists and a third-place finisher, doubled the state record for the most points scored (129.5) and posted the largest margin of victory (67). Randy was also a two-time State Freestyle Champion and twice placed fourth in the Junior Nationals. Randy competed for Iowa State University under Coach Harold Nichols, placing four times at the Northern Open, twice at the prestigious Midlands tournament and winning the 1982 Midwest Championships. He also took third and second in the Big 8 Conference and twice captured NCAA All-American honors in 1981 and 1982. In 1985 Randy started his coaching career at Elmwood Park High School. He assumed the head coaching position in 1988 and produced his first state placewinner and the school's first medalist in twenty-one years. In 1991 Randy became an assistant wrestling coach at Conant High School in Hoffman Estates and was selected IWCOA Assistant Coach of the Year. Currently the Athletic Director at Leyden High School, Randy hosts a variety of wrestling events for the school and the Illinois High School Association. For the past ten years Randy has served as the Head Table Supervisor at the State Individual Wrestling tournament. Randy is also a member of the IWCOA Hall of Fame and serves on the board of the Illinois Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. Randy was recognized by the IWCOA as Administrator of the Year in 2009 and served on the National Federation Wrestling Rules Committee in Indianapolis from 2010 to 2013.
