Glenn Thompson

GT Thompson is a 1979 graduate of Bald Eagle Area High School, where he was a 2-year starter and letter winner for legendary NWHOF coach, Dick Rhoades. GT as a tireless worker, never missed practice nor complained about hard work. He led by example. The leadership, discipline and toughness he showed on the mat stuck with him into adult life, where he had a successful business career before being elected to Congress. GT once confided to Coach Rhoades that the work ethic he learned in the BEA wrestling room served him well, especially in Washington! Glenn and his wife Penny have 3 sons, Parker, Logan, and Kale. GT is a graduate of Penn State and Temple Universities, where he earned a B.S. and a Master's in Education, respectively. Glenn is an Eagle Scout and has been a Scouting leader for 4 decades. In 2012, he was the recipient of the National Distinguished Eagle Scout Award. President Gerald R. Ford and astronaut Neil Armstrong are also past recipients of this prestigious award. GT has been a community leader his entire adult life. He is a former BEA Board member and past vice-chair of the Private Industry Council of the Central Corridor, a volunteer firefighter for over three decades, and a member of the Howard Lions Club. GT was first elected to serve the 5th District in the United States House of Representatives in 2008, where he still serves. He serves on the House Committee on Education & Workforce, and is Co-Chairman for the Congressional Natural Gas Caucus. He is Chair of the House Agriculture Subcommittee on Conservation, Energy & Forestry, and Co-Chair of the bipartisan Congressional Career & Technical Education Caucus. The Hall of Outstanding Americans demonstrates wrestling's pride in those who have used wrestling's disciplines to launch notable careers in other walks of life, such as science and technology, business and industry, government, military, or arts & humanities. Clearly, Congressman Glenn Thompson has done that. Glenn and his wife Penny reside in Howard Township in Centre County.
