Ron Park

Ron Park graduated from Springfield College, then returned to his alma mater, Clearfield High School, and started coaching in the mid 50's. He assisted legendary coaches Art Weiss (3 yrs.) and Jerry Maurey (5 yrs.), then became the Head Coach, guiding the Bison for 9 years. In 1968, he moved to the Pittsburgh area to become the Head Coach at Hempfield High School. In 13 years, Ron elevated the Spartans to a WPIAL power. He retired in 1986 when his wife, Carole faced significant medical problems. She fought and beat cancer, as they continue to enjoy a long life together! 15 years later, Ron returned as a volunteer coach, guiding Hempfield's Jr High program for 4 years. He then became a volunteer varsity assistant, and has been there for 9 years. He's an every-day coach at the age of over 82 years! Many fellow coaches are men he once coached, but all at Hempfield speak of his possessing the same drive he had when he was decades younger! They also talk about the impact Ron had on their lives and the direction he provided to make them better coaches...and better men. As a Head Coach, had 3 State Champs, and was an assistant for 5 others. His record was 232-59-12, with a winning percentage of .785. Ron is a member of Halls of Fame for the PA Wrestling Coaches Association, the PA Sports, and District 9 Wrestling. This past year, Ron was inducted into the WPIAL Hall of Fame. Ron also was a wrestling referee for ten years. He produced a History of Clearfield Wrestling through 1968. He also coached baseball for 43 years...and counting! Ron has relentless enthusiasm for and love of our sport. He has coached for over 50 years and has dedicated his entire Lifetime in the service of Wrestling. Ron and his wife Carole continue to live in Greensburg.
