"Doc Pat" graduated from Penn State in Pre-Med in 1942. He was a medic in World War II, wounded during the Battle of the Bulge, and was awarded a Purple Heart. After the War, he attended the University of Pittsburgh Medical School. He and his wife Norma then settled in Philipsburg in 1951, where he opened his practice. Doc Pat fell in love with Philipsburg and the sport of wrestling while raising his family there. If you were born in Philipsburg, you were probably one of the 7,120 infants he delivered! Many of these later participated in P-O teams, receiving his care as team physician. In 1956, he became the Tournament Physician for the District 6 and the Northwest Regional Tournaments. He served both of those events for 46 years! In 1960, he became the PIAA State Tournament Physician, and continued in that capacity for the next 41 years. He retired from these three positions in 2001. Doc Pat is a member of both the PA Wrestling Coaches Association and District 6 Halls of Fame. He was the District 6 Man-of-the-Year in 1975. Unknown to fans and coaches, he anonymously donated the Outstanding Wrestler trophy at Regionals for many years. Norma passed away in 1993, and Doc Pat also passed in November 5, 2006. But he did not pass from the hearts and minds of the wrestlers, coaches and fans who knew and respected him. Doc Pat's and Norma's five children: Patrick, Terilee, Danni, Melanie and Michele, are here for their father's induction into the NWHOF.
