Born Sept. 9, 1951. Raised on a dairy farm near Platteville, WI. Played three sports in high school; football, wrestling, track and field, team captain in football and SWAL Conference MVP. Received all-state recognition senior year. Team captain in wrestling. SWAL Conference Champion, WIAA state qualifier for two years. Graduated Luther College, Decorah, IA. 1973 with B.S. Physical Education and Health Education, team captain, two time Iowa conference champion, and three time NCAA college division national qualifier. Luther College Male Athlete of the Year in 1973. Began teaching physical education and health August 1973 in the Fort Atkinson School District. Became head wrestling coach at Ft. Atkinson High School in September 1974. Cofounded the Ft. Atkinson Youth 1975....Invited by Dr. Willie Myers to join staff of UW-Whitewater Warhawk Wrestling Camps. I considered this a great honor for a young, just out of college high school coach. Began coaching and wrestling Greco-Roman wrestling in 1976. Joined Keith Swett in coaching Wisconsin Junior National Greco-Roman teams. Member of Wisconsin Jr. National Teams coaching staff from 1976 to 1995. Officiated Wisconsin Wrestling Federation Freestyle and Greco-Roman tournaments. Hosted six state cadet and juniors Greco-Roman championships in Fort Atkinson, conducted several Greco-Roman clinics in southern Wisconsin. Co-hosted Fort-Whitewater Development Camps for three years with Wendall Bean. March 1976...placed third at USWF National Freestyle Open in Madison, WI. 1976-1993...wrestled competitively..Won several Wisconsin USWF Opens, Wisconsin AAU Opens, and Badger State Games, one National AAU Championship, several AAU Masters Championships, placed sixth at 1989 Northern Open and second at 1993 World Veterans Tournament. October 1993...Inducted into Luther College Athletic Hall of Fame. Head coach of Fort Atkinson High School from 1974 to 1997. Competed in the Badger Conference. The highest team finish was second place. Twenty-five WIAA state qualifiers, twelve state place winners, three state champions, and three runners-up. Became assistant wrestling coach at Fort Atkinson High School in 1999 until 2010. Became a volunteer assistant wrestling coach at LaFollette High School in Madison, WI in 2011. January 2014...Inducted into the Fort Atkinson High School Athletic Wall of Fame.
