Norm Collier

Norm's contribution to wrestling began in 1964, when he was working as a foreman for the telephone company and he began volunteering at the South Shore Y.M.C.A two nights a week. In 1967 Norm took over as head of the program and since that time has made countless contributions to the Wrestling Community during his forty-five years of dedication to the sport of wrestling.

While at the South Shore Y.M.C.A. Norm had a major influence on countless young men who later went on to coach, referee, and establish impressive records themselves. Among the hundreds of youth Norm coached are Colin Killrain, who went on to become a New England Champion and was rated 2nd Nationally during his Collegiate wrestling career, current Massachusetts State Treasurer Tim Cahill, and Lou Vinturelli, who also went on to become a State Champion and currently coaches at Quincy High School. Between 1982 - 1987 Norm was the Assistant Coach at Braintree High School where he made major contributions to their wrestling program. Norm has also assisted coaches and wrestling teams at Duxbury, Holbrook, and Weymouth South High Schools. He still works with many coaches and young men. Norm also began officiating in the early 60's until the end of the A.A.U. competitions at the Y in the late 70's and has been well-recognized for his expertise and dedication.

Norm is a member of the Knight Of Columbus and "The Telephone Pioneers Club" as well as a lifetime gold card member of the South Shore Y.M.C.A. In 1992 he received the Y.M.C.A. "Outstanding Volunteer Award" for forty-six years of service to youth and in 1994 he received the Y.M.C.A. Ben Hodgkins Award. Norm has also served as a Scoutmaster, past President of the St. Joseph's School Athletic Association and in 1967 was named St. Josephs Holy Name, "Man of the year."
