Greg Maestas
Greg Maestas - Lifetime Service to Wrestling Award: Greg wrestled at three colleges, Trinidad State Junior College (1969-1970), San Jose City College (1970-1971) and Western State College (1971-1973). He was a two-time NCAA, Division II All-American in 1972-1973 and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference champion in 1973 and co-MVP of the league. After wrestling in college, it was on to coaching in the high school ranks. His teams have won 16 League or Regional titles, have finished in the top-five at state 10 times and he has coached 195 state qualifiers. During his tenure, Greg produced nine High School Ail-Americans, 13 state champions, 84 state place winners and two National Champions. He was selected to coach in the Colorado All-state Games in 1988 and 2005 and was honored as the Colorado Wrestling Coach of the Year in 1988 and 1997. His state and national honors are numerous. He was also named to the Gatorade National Coaches Who Care list in 1993 and named the Overland High School Teacher of the Year in 1996. From 1989-2001 he served on the National Wrestling Coaches Association holding positions on the Board of Directors, VicePresident and President. From 1988 to 1992, he served on the Colorado USA Wrestling Board of Directors and in 1990 he was a team leader for the Colorado-Japan High School Exchange. He is a member of the Adams City High School Hall of Fame and the Western State College Hall of Fame. Greg is currently active with the Colorado High School Coaches Association, the National Wrestling Coaches Association and with USA Wrestling. He is the founder of the Overland High School Freestyle Club and was the Overland Youth Wrestling Director and Coach from 1988-1992.
