Bill Hyson

Bill Hyson is proud of his Carroll County roots. He graduated from Francis Scott Key High School in 1973 where he lettered in Football, Wrestling and Baseball. He continued his education at Frostburg State College. He wrestled and played football for four more years at the collegiate level. Bill returned to Carroll County after he graduated in 1977 and has worked as a Health and Physical Education teacher at FSK throughout his career. Bill has been the head wrestling coach at FSK for thirty-four years. During that time his teams have won 264 dual meets. The Eagles, under Bill Hyson's direction, have recorded only three seasons where they have lost more matches than they have won. Bill's teams and the athletes he coaches are a reflection of the kind of person he is. His guys are hard-nosed and aggressive. However, they always wrestle within the rules, and each of his athletes is respectful to officials and opposing wrestlers and coaches. Bill has been a role model and father figure for many of the athletes he has coached. He wants his athletes to be successful on and off the mat. Bill is a true gentleman and expects his athletes and those associated with his program to exhibit the highest ideals of sportsmanship. Bill's teams are well conditioned and technically sound. However, he puts even greater emphasis on work ethic, perseverance and teamwork. These life lessons have and will continue to benefit the athletes who have competed under his supervision. The accomplishments of the FSK Eagles, under Coach Bill Hyson, showcase one of the top programs in the state of Maryland. They host one of the longest running holiday tournaments in the Baltimore Metro area. His teams have won Regional Tournament Championships, Carroll County titles, and numerous invitational tournament championships. Hyson coached his team to one fourth, two third and one second place in the MPSSAA State tournament. His team competed for the state dual title in 1996 and has made two additional appearances as semi-finalists in the state dual tournament. Wrestling has always been a family affair for the Hyson family. Bill's parents always attended matches. Bill has been married to his wife Suzanne for thirty-two years. They have three children, Stacie, Matt and Stephanie. Stephanie and Matt continue to help with tournaments. Matt wrestled for his Dad and Stephanie was a statistician. They live in Union Bridge.
