David Mauger
David and Mary Beth Mauger have two children of their own, Kristen and Lauren. But there are countless other young men who have crossed paths with Coach Mauger, who consider him a father figure. David "Coach" Mauger is a man who placed an emphasis on building adolescent boys into men of character who were mentally tough through adversity. There was no value placed on winning unless it was earned the right way. Many lives have been shaped by his words of wisdom, kindness and discipline. He taught more than wrestling. He taught his athletes to be determined, treat women with respect, live a healthy lifestyle, overcome the adversities of life and to live a life of purpose. He hosted tournaments during the regular wrestling season and off season. Had one of the largest wrestling mats in the world; 62' x 62' in 1977 with a 52' wrestling circle and one of the only coaches to have over 170 wins at 2 different high schools. He did it all without off-season wrestling clubs, middle school feeder programs, student-athlete transfers or by playing polities. - He took ninth graders who knew nothing about our sport, convinced them to wrestle, sold them and their parents on it, and turned hundreds of kids into success stories. He taught about relationships, priorities, friendship, loyalty and basic right from wrong. Dave is a fantastic motivator and through his many years of coaching has had a tremendous influence upon hundreds of students and wrestlers. Because of his Lifetime Service to the sport or wrestling, we are honored the have David Mauger inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame & Museum through the Florida Chapter.
