West Lamoureaux
A standout athlete at Garinger High School in Charlotte, Lamoureaux played football, wrestled, and ran track. He was an honorable mention all-state selection in football, played in the 1962 Shrine Bowl, and led his football team to a conference championship and a state runner-up finish.
Lamoureaux attended Wingate Junior College before enrolling at Appalachian State in 1964, competing in track and football until his athletic career was ended by an injury. Graduating in 1966, he accepted a position at Lexington Junior High School where he started a wrestling program. From 1972-78 he coached at Lexington High. Lexington High School, which at the time was a member of the Western North Carolina Athletic Association. His teams were consistent winners, producing two WNCHSAA state champions, and earning Lamoureaux conference coach of the year honors.
Lamoureaux began officiating in the 1972-73 season under former Catawba coach "Dutch" Meyer and refereed in North Carolina for 47 years, working 38 NCHSAA State Championship events. A leader in the officiating ranks, he conducted local clinics for officials in his association for many years. His final season of officiating was in 2019. Lamoureaux retired in 2002 from Lexington City Schools after a 36-year career as teacher, coach, athletic director and administrator at various schools. He was inducted into the Davidson County Hall of Fame in 2007 and into the North Carolina Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2013.
