December 26, 1948 - Present

Steve Morgan, originally from Syracuse, New York, began wrestling in middle school and achieved notable success as a wrestler. Under Coach Leo Johnson, Morgan became an All-State wrestler in high school, finishing 3rd in New York in 1967. He continued his wrestling career at SUNY Morrisville, where he earned All-American honors by placing 5th in the JUCO national tournament.  Morgan then enrolled at East Carolina University (ECU) after his time at SUNY Morrisville. While at ECU, he started for two years, was a North Carolina Collegiate State Champion, and the Southern Conference Champion in 1971.

Upon graduating from ECU in 1971, Morgan embarked on a coaching career, initially establishing the wrestling program at D.H. Conley in Greenville, North Carolina. After three years at D.H. Conley, he coached at Auburn High School in New York before assuming the role of head coach at Hickory High School in 1978. After coaching for 21 seasons at Hickory, Morgan had amassed a career dual meet record of 309 wins, 49 losses, and 11 ties.

Following his retirement from coaching, Morgan dedicated himself to officiating for 30 years. His officiating career included numerous NCHSAA State Individual Championships and State Dual Team Championships. From 2014 to 2021, he officiated in both North and South Carolina, and called multiple regional and state championship events in South Carolina.

Notably, Steve Morgan's success extended beyond wrestling as he enjoyed a successful career as a soccer coach for over four decades. In 2001, his Hickory soccer team clinched the NCHSAA State Championship. Morgan's success as a soccer coach led to him being named the North Carolina Soccer Coach of the Year twice. At the time of his induction into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, he had amassed an impressive 726 wins, 204 losses, and 50 ties while coaching both boy's and girl's teams.

Morgan continued to teach and coach Alexander Central High School from 2007 to 2014 before ultimately retiring from education. Currently, he resides in North Myrtle Beach with his wife Lisa and operates Morgan Home and Pool Solutions. Morgan is a member of both the National Junior College Hall of Fame and the North Carolina Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.
