Larry Wagner
Larry Wagner - Lifetime Service to Wrestling Award: Larry, who graduated from Fort Morgan High School, was a two-time state champion, 1965 at 112-pounds, and 1966 at 120. He was also named the Outstanding Wrestler in the 1966 tournament. From there it was on to the University of Northern Colorado where he became a Division II National Champion and a Division I, fourth-place finisher. Larry began his coaching career as an assistant at Adams State College in 1971 and helped coach the team to the NAIA National Title that season. He then went on to become the head coach at Pueblo East High School in 1972 and held the position until 2009. Through his tenure Larry was able to coach more than 50 athletes who would go on to become officials and coaches in high school and college. He was named the Colorado Coach of the Year in 1982 after guiding the Eagles to a state second place finish. Two of his most outstanding wrestlers were Rick Willits and Cliff Laughlin. Willits was an unbeaten state champion in 1980 who won the national championship at Adams State in 1985. Laughlin, became an Olympic coach 12 years ago. While at Pueblo East Wagner taught Special Education and Industrial Arts and he still continues as a substitute teacher in the Pueblo School.
